As per the Mayo Clinic,  Ramsay Hunt syndrome can happen when a person develops shingles when  the virus affects the nerve endings in close proximity to the ear.

Patients  who suffer from Ramsay Hunt syndrome can experience hearing loss,  ringing in the ear, trouble shutting one's eyes, vertigo changes in  taste, and dry eyes or mouth.
